Travel in luxury to Tanzania photo safari, featuring the best of East Africa in a custom small group setting for wildlife photography.  Our safari is designed to coincide with the birthing season of the wildebeest herds in the southern and central Serengeti. With calving in full swing predators and scavengers are quite abundant like no other season. We concentrate on all the big cats, tons of grazing animals, hippos, elephants, birds, and so much more. We can easily film 35 species of birds as well as flamingos.  We don’t need in a rush, waiting when necessary to record incredible movement. We will start the safari before the sunrise, to catch the best lights in the morning, take a break at noon, and go to the field again in the afternoon. We will have very experienced drivers.

Itinerary:

Feb. 24, Leave Portland at 1:24pm, fly to Amsterdan by KLM Airlines.

Feb. 25, Arrive Amsterdan at 8:40am. Leave AMS at 10:15am, arrive Lilimanjaro airport at 8:35pm. Transfer to Mt. Meru Hotel in Arusha (45min)

Feb. 26,Lake Natron Tented Camp, Arush/Lake Natron National Park

Heading to Lake Natron in the morning. Lake Natron and the surrounding waters are the habitat of 3 million small flamingos and 50,000 big flamingos. They are the largest flamingo hatchery breeding base in East Africa.


Feb. 27, Lake Natron Tented Camp, Lake Natron NP

Whole day safari in Lake Natron, an inland lake in northern Tanzania, near the Kenyan border, formed by fault depression. The lake is warm and rich in minerals such as salt, soda and magnesite, so it is an ideal breeding ground of the flamingos.


Feb. 28, Ngr Wildlife Lodge, Lake Natron/Ngorongoro Crater


Heading to Ngorongoro Crater in the morning, visit Hadzapi Bushmen villige on the way. The Bushman of the Hadzhabi tribe is the oldest and last hunting tribe in the world. The Hadzapi Bushmen living around Lake Eyasi in Tanzania have a totoal population of less than 1,000 people. They consist of 20 or 30 people per group, scattered in the thick bushes. Since ancient times, men have been hunting for a living, not grazing, not farming, and women collecting fruit, look after the old and the young, have lived a life of 10,000 years ago, this is why the locals call this tribe as hunting bushmen.  


Feb. 29, March 1, NGR Wildlife Lodge, Ngorongoro Crater


Enjoy two whole day in the Crater.
The Ngorongoro Crater is a very unique nature reserve. The volcanic crater of more than 100 square kilometers gathers various ecological features such as grasslands, forests, hills, lakes and swamps, and attracts animals outside the crater. Settled, it gradually formed an independent ecological chain system. The crater contains almost all animal species outside, and more than 25,000 large animals form a natural ecological balance in this semi-enclosed area. It is also one of the few regions in Africa that can see five major animals at the same time. It is called the “eighth wonder of the world”.


March 2, Serengeti Wildlife Lodge, Central Serengeti


Heading to Serengeti NP in the morning. Serengeti is the most famous NP in Tanzania, with more than 3 million large mammals, it also shows the most attractive as African true nature of the animal sancturary: large groups of buffoloes, small groups of elephants and diraffes, thousands of wildebeests, East African gazelle, impala and Ge’s gazelle.


March 3, Serengeti Wildlife Lodge, Central Serengeti


Whole day game drive. The central area of the Serengeti NP is due to the long flowing water of the Seronera River, not only makes the seasons along the river valley ergreen, but also guarantees the various animals in the area, meanwhile, it made the best area to watch the big cats activities.


March 4, Masek Tented Lodge, Central Serengeti/Southern Serengeti


Heading to the Nduto district of Ngorongoro Crater Reserve. From January to March is birthing season for zebra, wildebeests and gazelle, they are gathering in Ndutu district and ready to start a new round of “great migration”.


March 5, 6, Masek Tented Lodge, Southern Serengeti


Over two days, continue exploring the vast areas of the southern plains with opportunities to watch zebra or wildebeests calving. This season is also the puerperium period of the big cats, we may see the lions and cheetahs with their babies.


March 7, Lake Manyara Wildlife Lodge, Southern Serengeti/Lake Manyara


Heading to Manyara Lake NP. Exploring Lake Manyara, you will get surprised.


March 8, Lake Manyara. Airport


G ame drives and walking along the lake. Heading to Kilimanjaro National Airport in afternoon to catch 9pm flight.
May 27, Arrive Amsterdam at 7:35am, LV at 10:20am, arrive Seattle at 11:37am, LV at 3pm, arrive Portland at 3:55pm.
